We want to enhance the use of HPC to investigate alternative fuels prior to conducting expensive experiments and develop numerical tools that can be applied with confidence to assess the performance of new fuels in practical systems.
Our target fuel is bio-syngas thermo-chemically converted from biomass gasification. This kind of fuel normally contains numerous gas components, including mainly CO, H2, CO2 and CH4, with varying component percentages. The complex fuel composition leads to unpredictable combustion performance. The use of exascale computing is essential for the industrial guideline, which addresses the applicability of biomass-derived gaseous fuels for gas turbine combustion and furnaces, including combustor operability.
