On March 18th took place in Rio de Janeiro (Brasil) the EUBrasilCloudFORUM concertation meeting. The purpose of this half a day EUBrasilCloudFORUM working meeting was to jointly form a plan of action with a first group of collaborative EU-BR projects and initiatives, and work together on the building of scenarios the projects will be working on; and involve these projects and initiatives in a very early stage with the shaping of the EUBrasilCloudFORUM Catalogue of EU-BR cloud computing tools & services.
Our Brazilian coordinator, Prof. Alvaro Coutinho, presented the HPC4E project during the first session, entitled EU-Brazil ICT collaboration today - getting to know each other. Coutinho explained the future global energy demand, the computing power and energy forecast demand and the solutions that HPC4E project envisions:
- HPC: efficient use of the future 100 Petaflops and Exaflop systems.
- Wind energy: wind farm design and short-term micro-scale wind simulations to forecast the daily power production and reduce CO2 targets.
- Biomass: predict the performance of different biomass-derived fuels in practical systems.
- Geophysics: obtain detailed images of deep hydrocarbon reservoirs.
